Mississippi College of Clinical Pharmacy (MCCP)
The Mississippi College of Clinical Pharmacy (MCCP) is the state chapter of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), dedicated to advancing human health by extending the frontiers of clinical pharmacy . Founded in 1998, MCCP has grown to encompass around 80 members across Mississippi, uniting clinical pharmacists from diverse practice settings under a common vision. For over two decades, it has served as the state’s leading organization for clinical pharmacy professionals – providing a platform for collaboration, innovation, and excellence in patient care.
History and Formation
MCCP traces its roots back to 1994, when Mississippi pharmacists formed the South Central College of Pharmacy as a local offshoot from the Tennessee-headquartered MidSouth College of Clinical Pharmacy. This new regional chapter – established in 1994 – gave Mississippi’s clinical pharmacists their own organization and identity separate from the MidSouth chapter. Four years later, in 1998, the group was rechartered as the Mississippi College of Clinical Pharmacy, formally becoming ACCP’s Mississippi state chapter. Since then, MCCP has continued to grow and solidify its presence as the voice of clinical pharmacy in the state, building a strong community of practitioners and leaders.
Advancing Clinical Pharmacy Practice
As a professional society, MCCP plays a vital role in advancing clinical pharmacy practice through education, networking, and advocacy. The chapter provides leadership and professional development opportunities, offering resources that help clinical pharmacists achieve excellence in practice, research, and education . MCCP organizes continuing education programs and workshops that keep pharmacists up to date on the latest pharmacotherapy developments and patient care best practices. It also offers networking opportunities for clinicians across hospitals, clinics, academia, and other settings, fostering a supportive community where members exchange knowledge and mentorship. In addition, the chapter collaborates with other healthcare organizations and academic institutions in Mississippi on educational initiatives and advocacy efforts to improve patient outcomes. Through regular newsletters, meetings, and ties to ACCP’s national resources, MCCP enables its members to grow professionally and works to elevate the standard of care for patients across Mississippi .
Overall, MCCP’s engaging community and ongoing initiatives have made it a cornerstone for clinical pharmacists in Mississippi. By providing continuing education, promoting research and innovative practice models, and connecting professionals statewide, the chapter continues to fulfill its mission of advancing clinical pharmacy and fostering excellence in pharmacy practice. Its members not only benefit from networking and learning opportunities, but also contribute to improving healthcare in Mississippi through their collective expertise and leadership.
